2005/2006 AWARDS

LUTSF has pleasure in announcing the 16 recipients of awards for 2005/06. Scholarships are awarded to pay travel expenses. The projects being undertaken highlight the policy of the Fund to support a diverse range of topics and to assist individuals at different stages in their careers.

Lisa Ullmann, in whose memory the Fund was established in 1986, was a distinguished international teacher of movement and dance who travelled worldwide to teach others. Since 1987 LUTSF has awarded 314 scholarships in Lisa Ullmann’s name. Projects to be undertaken in 2005/2006 are exciting in their variety. Scholarship winners will travel abroad

The task of the Selection Committee is a difficult one since this year 60 applications, as compared with 50 last year, were received, and again the quality of applications was high. A total of £10,085 has been awarded to the 16 winners. Of the 16, 6 are under 30, 9 are between 31-50 and 1 is over 50. There are 12 female and 4 male recipients, approximately the same male/female ratio as last year. Geographical spread is satisfactory with eight awardees coming from London, one from the north, and two from each of the midlands, south and west regions, and one from Scotland. The projects take awardees into contact with leading dance practitioners worldwide and many will study innovative or unusual dance/movement forms.

The LUTSF gratefully acknowledges the support of the Linbury Trust, Gillian Lynne, CBE, Geraldine Stephenson, the late Annie Collins, as well as many individual donors. The Management Committee of the fund would like to congratulate scholarship winners, and is delighted that LUTSF is able to help make possible so many exciting projects.

Donations (one-off gifts, covenants, or bequests) to make it possible for LUTSF to continue its work in funding travel costs for individuals undertaking a project in dance/movement are sought and should be sent to: The Treasurer (LUTSF), Northern School of Contemporary Dance, 98 Chapeltown Road, Leeds, LS7 4BH.
